Montalcino wine tour - A Montalcino tour from Florence

This tour is a must for wine lovers.
We will leave Florence and head towards Siena, driving along the Medieval Via Francigena, built by Charlemagne in order to connect Paris to Rome.
Upon our arrival to Montalcino, we will explore the Castle, where the Sienese was besieged for four years before surrendering to the Medici.
We will then visit the town that gave birth to the Brunello wine.
A short drive through the beautiful hills will take us to the Romanesque Abbey of Sant'Antimo, over a thousand years old. This church is currently managed by a small Benedictine congregation, which is known for their Gregorian Chanting. We will listen to their prayers before having lunch at a local Trattoria, featuring Brunello wine.
Then get ready for the highlight of the day: we will visit Biondi Santi's Winery where, more than a hundred year ago, the clone of the Sangiovese became Brunello. The hour long tour of the cellars will open minds and palates to the secrets of what is condidered one of today's best wine.
